Neffiès is an ancient “Circulade” village dating from the 10th century. It retains a strong rural character in the heart of the Coteaux de Languedoc wine region. It is a vibrant village with much going on including the annual hill climb event in March, regular Brasucades organised by the Mairie and numerous fêtes not to mention regular music at the excellent L’Escampette Bistrot run by Jose and Nilda. The village is very lucky to also have another super (5 star rated on trip advisor) restaurant, the Very Table run by Sébastien and Valerie. There is a boulangerie 200 metres from our door, a post office and small épicerie/coffee shop. The fishmonger and shellfish sellers come to the village square every Thursday and there is a mobile pizza van which visits several evenings a week.
Neffiès has an enviable situation just far enough from the coast (24km) to avoid the Summer crowds and well sheltered by its hill to minimise the effects of the Tramontane. Lake Salagou just to the North offers great swimming and some watersports. Pézenas, our charming local market town, is 10 minutes away and has most things one is likely to need while on holiday. Montpellier is an hour by car and the proximity of the Via Domitia autoroute A9 means going to Perpignan, Carcasonne the Pyrenées or even Spain is very easy. In the other direction the Camargue, Aix en Provence, Avignon and even Marseille are very accessible.
